The teaching within the area of pollution of water, air and soil covers methods for measuring, evaluating and understanding processes which govern the transport, distribution, fate, and effects of pollutants in water, air and soil in order to identify, characterize and remediate pollution problems.

The teaching area covers overviews of physical, chemical, and biological processes in a multidisciplinary way based on environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, geochemistry and microbiology. Aspects of risk assessment in different scenarios are also covered.
