Micro Pollutants In Wastewater Treatment Plants (Contact: Anna Ledin, Henrik Andersen) Wastewater contains a cocktail of xenobiotic compounds (XC) from the use of chemicals and pharmaceutics in households, hospitals and industry, as well as from buildings and infrastructure. The fate of XC in wastewater treatment plants is poorly understood. The main purpose is to investigate the fate of XC in water treatment plants with focus on biological and chemical degradation (advanced oxidation) as well as physical and chemical removal processes. Treatment experiments with model compounds representing important chemical groups (presently endocrine disrupting compounds and pharmaceuticals) are carried out in bench, pilot and full scale.
