UddragTemporal variations of the earth gravity field reflect, among other effects, temporal changes in total water storage (TWS) in the earth system. However, instrument accuracy has been insufficient in the past to measure the minimal changes in the gravitational acceleration due to changes in water storage. A new generation of outdoor absolute and relative gravimeters is now available (Scintrex A-10, Scintrex CG-5) which are accurate enough to monitor water storage changes in typical hydrological systems. Moreover, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) has provided space-borne gravity measurements with unprecedented accuracy and global coverage.
