Thomas Højlund Christensen (THC) forsker i affaldsteknologi, især i forhold til forbrænding, biologisk behandling, deponering og udnyttelse af affald og restprodukter. THC er specialist i miljøvurdering af affaldssystemer, blandt andet med udvikling af LCA-modellen EASEWASTE (livs-cyklus-vurdering) til behandling og genanvendelse af affald.

Ekspertise
Professor in waste management and Director of Research at the Department of Environmental Engineering. M.Sc. from DTU, PhD from University of Washington, Seattle, and dr.agro. from the former Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (soil chemistry)(Now University of Copenhagen). Has been a researcher in waste management and related aspects for more than 30 years, specifically within environmental assessment of waste management systems (founder of the waste-LCA-model EASEWASTE), leaching from waste and groundwater pollution at landfills. Has also worked with waste characterization, incineration, biological treatment and utilization of waste on land and in civic construction. Has collaborated with municipalities, institutions and companies in Denmark as well as abroad. Has published several international books on waste. Has published more than 150 international scientific journal contributions and has been cited more than 3500 times. Head of the research school 3R: Residual Resources Research. Is chairing the Program Committee on Energy and Environment under the Strategic Research Council and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Energy-Technology Development and Demonstration Program. Member of the Executive Committee of Danish Solid Waste Association (DAKOFA.)Member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences.
