Isotope Lab

The Isotope laboratory has facilities for storing and handling isotopes. Methods include measurements of rates of methanogenesis using C-14 labelled acetate and carbonate tracers and rates of sulfate reduction using S-35 labelled sulfate. The laboratory has two Liquid Scintillation Counters for studies using C-14. Current studies comprise the mentioned rate measurements, degradation of pesticides and other pollutants labelled with C-14, Fe-oxide transformations using Fe-55 labelled oxides, as well as the behaviour of arsenic using As-73.
